Update 1.2.0 + My next game won’t be on Itch
So I kind of lied, but in your favor. In the last blog post I said future updates will be paywalled but there wasn’t enough interest from players to pay for the game and also Itch doesn’t really work that way, which leads to the topic of my future games not being released on Itch, which I will touch on at the end of this blog post.
Anyway, I was bored and really wanted to add some cool weapons to this game, so I made this update. Here’s the full breakdown of this update:

Update 1.1.0 Easter Egg
To my knowledge, nobody has completed the easter egg introduced with the 1.1.0 update. To make it easier for people to complete it, here’s 3 clues to help with achieving it:
- Set date to 1984 (Optional on Android due to limitations)
- 145 meters
- Friendly-fire (requires specific weapon setup)
Each clue corresponds to a step required for completing the easter egg. After completing each step, a sound will play. All 3 steps need to be completed in a single run of the game.
Upon completing it, a new weapon will be added to your arsenal.
As an alternative way of completing the easter egg, the first person to complete the killhouse in under 22.50 seconds with video proof posted to the VFS Discord will receive the the full instructions to completing the easter egg.
My next game won’t be on Itch
If you go to the browse page on Itch, a huge amount of the games in the popular section will be low effort tuber bait horror games or other games primarily targeted at young teenagers (Sprunki, FNF, Garn). This makes is pretty hard to be featured there if you’re not one of these games.
Let’s say you’re not interested in the endless slop of horror games that are on Itch and want to find some new game. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could exclude all games with the “Horror” tag? Simply add “?exclude=tg.horror” to the end of the URL. Why is this not a user-accessible option? Don’t know! It’s been like this for 9 years. What if you’re also not interested in visual novels? Uh-oh, there’s no way to exclude multiple tags. People have been asking for this feature for years and recently the GitHub issue for this feature was locked after people have been discussing about this 9-year-old issue with the only official response being “😞”.
This isn’t the only long running issue with Itch. Itch has no support for individual DLCs or in-app purchases. Some work was done in the past but ultimately it was scrapped. Simple stuff like not
redundantly zipping APK files when uploaded using butler have just been ignored. Instead, the only changes to this website in the last few years have been being able to make blog posts on your profile, instead of any specific game, adding support for BlueSky profile links and AI tagging system for assets, which I’m convinced was just a publicity stunt as there’s no way to exclude AI generated results and there’s no indication that an asset has been AI generated when it has been marked as such, making this feature completely useless.
I’m convinced only one person works at Itch. The moderation might as well not exist. You can pretty easily find pirated copies of some games on here with the exact same title.
So, why use Itch? The only upside I can really see is you can just upload anything for free with no verification required. This works pretty well with the game jams that are hosted on here. But other than jam games. I don’t see any reason to keep using this website if you’re serious about game development.
Just bite the bullet and pay the $100 Steam fee and use the more feature rich platform that keeps getting new updates.
This means my future games will be released on Steam. Not sure if I will continue with mobile support for my games, though.
Until then, you can join my Discord for future news or follow my Twitter down below. Be aware that I post tweets about various topics on there, not necessarily related to game dev.
